A pay as you feel evening of poetry and spoken word, hosted by the People Powered Press. At this special edition of Poets Inc, we welcome three young poets – showcasing the best emerging talent in the region.

Zara Sehar, a Muslim British-Pakistani Poet, was born and raised in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Her work often delves into the intricacies of the British-Asian diaspora. She was shortlisted for the Yorkshire Asian Young Achievers award in the Arts and Creative Industries category (YAYA Awards 2023), placed third in the Roundhouse Slam (2024), and won the audience vote. She has shared her work on BBC Woman’s Hour, anthologies and online.

Alfie Wilson is an alumni of the First Story programme, with his work published in two anthologies. Mainly interested in poetry, he enjoys playing around with language and exploring current issues of race and empathy in his work. Currently studying English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of Manchester, Alfie was recently commissioned to write poetry for a virtual reality project as part of Bradford City of Culture 2025, celebrating his passion for landscape, heritage and language.

Ayman J. Sabir

Ayman J. Sabir is a multidisciplinary writer, creator, and poet who regularly performs at open mics and shares her spoken-word poetry online. Alongside poetry, she is currently writing a novel that reflects the lived experiences of British Pakistani Muslims. Her work explores themes of identity, spirituality and culture, drawing from her perspective as a dual-heritage South Asian. She is also the Creative Director and Founder of Samajh My Gal, a creative magazine for dual-heritage South Asians, celebrate dual heritage, South Asian identity. Ayman believes that spaces like this should be more accessible and is on a mission to expand Samajh in more ways to do so.
